If you are looking for an alternative to traditional burial to lay your loved one to rest, cremation is an option you may wish to consider. At Greenwood Memorial Park & Mortuary, we perform our own cremation services onsite, and we work to ensure that your loved one’s wishes are honored at all stages of the process.
What is Cremation?
Cremation is a method of treating the body after death which involves incinerating it at very high temperatures. After the process is complete, the body has been reduced to a fine powder. You may choose to be present during the cremation process, if you wish. Cremation is a dignified approach to the end of a person’s life that is growing more popular, with as many as one-third of all people in the United States opting for it. The reasons so many people are choosing cremation include:
- It is environmentally friendly, since it requires less use of space and preserves land.
- It is a more cost-effective option for many people than traditional burial.
- It allows for more flexible memorial options.
If you decide on cremation, you have several options available for storing the cremated remains. At Greenwood Memorial Park & Mortuary, we offer these choices for creating a memorial for your loved one:
Columbarium. A columbarium is a place where urns containing cremated remains can be placed and honored. At our columbariums, your loved one’s urn can be kept in a peaceful and tranquil setting. We have a number of columbariums for you and your family to select from throughout our memorial park.
Cremation Boulders. A cremation boulder is a means of preserving your loved one’s remains in a boulder that can be placed in a natural setting. This is a classy and distinctive way to honor someone who has passed, and it provides your family with a memorial that can be visited again and again over the years.
Cremation Garden. The Salli Lynn Nature Garden and Memory Lake at Greenwood Memorial Park & Mortuary provides a setting for cremation boulders and other memorials. We also provide personalized memorials—including busts, benches, and pedestals—that allow you to create a unique way to honor and remember your loved one.
Glass Front Niches. These climate-controlled niches within our columbariums provide the perfect and appropriate setting for your loved one’s urn.
